The Housing Minister, Gautam Deb, will leave for the Andamans on Wednesday while the party MPs, Mikhilananda Sar and Ramchandra Dome, along with a team of doctors have left for Chennai, as part of the relief operations.

Mr. Biswas said the party was trying to find out the extent of damage in other States as well.

Caution to tourists

Meanwhile, the West Bengal Government today directed tourists holidaying in the sea resorts of Digha and Sankarpur in South Bengal to return within 48 hours. The port authorities have been alerted and the administration has been asked to ensure that fishermen did not venture out to sea.

After reviewing the situation, the Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, said that at least 35,000 tourists were still to return from the two sea resorts. Some tourists from West Bengal are still in Tamil Nadu and the administration is in touch with the Government there.
