JAIPUR, DEC. 27. The Rajasthan Government established a control room in the State Secretariat here today to provide information about the welfare of the people from the State settled in Tamil Nadu and other coastal States affected by the earthquake and tidal waves which have claimed hundreds of lives. The control room started functioning this morning with the telephone number 0141-1070. The State Government has requested the people to get the information regarding the non-resident Rajasthanis living in the tsunami-affected areas by providing their names and addresses. The Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje, and the Governor, Pratibha Patil, expressing sorrow at the human tragedy, said urgent relief and rehabilitation measures for the affected families were imperative at this stage. Ms. Patil announced a contribution of Rs. 1-lakh to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund for initiating the relief works. The Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat expressed his deep sympathy and grief at the devastation and loss of life caused by the tidal waves.
