Code of conduct violation alleged

By Our Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH, DEC.27. The Congress MLA, Karan Singh Dalal, has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner alleging violation of the Mode Code of Conduct by the Chautala regime in Haryana in the appointment of 72 Sub-Inspectors and 819 police constables.

Addressing a press conference here today, Mr.Dalal alleged on the basis of documents produced by him that these Sub-Inspectors were appointed on December 19 which was a Sunday though the Model Code of Conduct had been enforced from December 17. He charged that all these candidates had been issued appointment letters on December 19 and they had joined duty on December 20 and 21.

Regarding the appointment of 819 constables, he said that the election code was violated blatantly and they had joined after their medical examination was done on December 23 and 24.

Mr.Dalal said that a delegation of the Congress would meet the Election Commission of India shortly to seek action against the Chautala regime for allegedly "distributing jobs'' and making new appointments despite a ban by the Commission.

He has also sought registration of a case against the Chief Minister, Om Parkash Chautala, the Director General of Police, M.S. Malik, and all those heads of departments who have issued the appointment letters. He has also sought the immediate removal of Dr.Malik as the DGP to ensure free and fair elections.
