PATHANAMTHITTA, DEC. 27. The Leader of the Opposition, V.S. Achuthanandan, has called upon the Government to give a compensation of Rs. 5 lakhs each to the families who have lost everything in the devastating tidal surge in different parts of the State. He said the matter would be raised at an all-party meeting to be held tomorrow. Mr. Achuthanandan was talking to reporters at the St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church auditorium where the CPI(M) district meeting was in progress this afternoon. Mr. Achuthanandan had visited the hospitals and relief camps at Ochira, Kayamkulam and Karunagappally, and the tidal wave-hit coastal belt last evening. He said that though the official machinery was yet to rise up to the expectations, the local people as well as various voluntary agencies were found to have been doing excellent relief operations along the coastal belt.
