By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
DEC. 27.
Indian Airlines today operated five Boeing 737 flights to Port Blair as part of relief operations in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. While three flights took off from Kolkata, two were from Chennai, evacuating 593 passengers.
The domestic carrier has plans to operate seven flights tomorrow five from Kolkata and two from Chennai to Port Blair. An IA spokesperson said the tentative plan for December 29 was to operate two flights each to Port Blair from Kolkata and Chennai depending upon the number of passengers to be evacuated.
A support team, led by the general manager of Eastern region, is stationed in Port Blair to oversee relief operations. Special cells have been set up at Kolkata, Chennai and Delhi to provide more information.
