PONDICHERRY, DEC. 27. The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, has appealed to all "benevolent and kind-hearted" people to make liberal contributions to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund so that the Administration can take up relief works in villages in the Pondicherry and Karaikal regions that bore the brunt of the tsunami on Sunday. Mr. Rangasamy said in a release today that the Government had initiated steps to provide solatium to the relatives of the victims.
Tax benefit
Donations to the Relief Fund would be eligible for total exemption under section 80G of the Income Tax Act. Contributions in the form of cheque or demand draft should be drawn in favour of the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and be handed over at the Office of the Council of Ministers, Romain Rolland Library Building, Pondicherry-605001.
