SHIMOGA, DEC. 27. The President of the Janata Dal (S) and former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, said here on Monday that the party units at district and taluk levels in the Malnad and coastal regions, where the party fared badly in the last elections, will be reconstituted. Addressing a press conference, he said the first phase of his extensive tour, which has begun from the Malnad and coastal regions, is intended to elicit the opinion of the party workers at the grassroots on reconstitution of the district and taluk units of the Janata Dal (S). He said the new teams of party office-bearers will be announced before January 15. He said the second phase of efforts to rejuvenate the party will begin from North Karnataka and Hyderabad Karnataka. Referring to the criticism by the party MLA Vaijnath Patil, he said: "I am immune to such criticism and do not like to respond to it.'' Referring to reports that he is opposed to the development of Bangalore, he said he is not opposed to development, but it should not be at the cost of the poor.
