NEW DELHI, DEC. 27. Unable to overcome the financial crisis, a 35-year-old businessman allegedly murdered his wife and two minor children and tried to commit suicide by slashing his wrist in his house at Najafgarh in South-West Delhi yesterday. The police recovered a suicide note from the house. The incident came to light when the brother-in-law of Yogesh reached his house and knocked at the door around 7 p.m. He did not get any response but heard someone wreathing in pain. Suspecting that something was amiss, he broke the door and entered the house to find that his sister, Preeti, had been stabbed. Yogesh, whose wrist had been slashed, was lying nearby. The bodies of their seven-year-old son, Jay, and three-year-old daughter, Disha, were found in a drum filled with water. There were ligature marks on their necks revealing that they had been strangled and then drowned. All the four were taken to a hospital where Preeti and her children were declared dead on arrival. Yogesh was stated to be in critical condition. Enquiries revealed that Yogesh, who had a fabric business at Patel Nagar in West Delhi, was depressed for the past six months as he had suffered huge losses. In a suicide note recovered from the house, Yogesh wrote that he was committing suicide after killing his children and wife as he was left with no other option. He wrote that he was taking the extreme step because he was unable to repay the debts.
