The Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, going round a handloom exhibition in Cuddapah on Monday.
CUDDAPAH, DEC. 27. The district Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, on Monday appealed to people to use more of handloom cloth to help generate work for handloom weavers. Speaking after inaugurating `Chenetha Alalu', a handloom exhibition-cum-sales, organised by Handlooms and Textiles Department, near One Town circle here, he said the Central and State Governments were promoting handloom cloth sales on 10 per cent rebate. He advised weavers to improve their skills and impress people to wear handloom clothes. The Assistant Director of Handlooms and Textiles, K. Ramachandraiah, said 32 handloom cooperative societies from 12 districts were participating in the exhibition, which would continue up to January 5. Uppada Jamadhani sarees, Pochampalle, Gadwal, Venkatagiri silk sarees, Peddarayudu dhotis, blankets, lungis etc., worth over Rs. 1.2 crores were on display, he said. The Tirupati Regional Deputy Director, S.R.K. Reddy, Handloom Development Officers, Veeraiah, C. Jagannatha Setty and other officials participated.
