NEW DELHI, DEC. 27. The Disciplinary Committee of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has imposed a two-month suspension on Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Subrata Paul. The suspension will be effective from January 1 to February 28. The panel ruled that Paul had made an off-the-ball challenge against Dempo forward Cristiano Junior in the Federation Cup final in Bangalore. Though the referee had not booked the Mohun Bagan player on the spot, disciplinary proceedings were initiated following Junior's death. A few players had pointed out the over-aggressive style of Paul's play, referring to an incident in the Durand Cup final between Bagan and East Bengal. "We want to set a precedent for the future," said the chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, Hardev Jadeja. Four members of the five-man panel met here on Monday ahead of the annual general body meeting of the AIFF scheduled for Tuesday. Paul can appeal against the decision. With the National Football League (NFL) commencing on January 14, Paul is expected to miss about eight to nine matches before the suspension period ends. Our Sports Reporter
