MYSORE, DEC. 27. Pourakarmikas, under the banner of Mysore Nagara Palike Poura Karmikara Sangha, today staged a dharna in front of the Mysore City Corporation office seeking implementation of their demands, including better pay and service conditions. They said that despite many attempts to convince the authorities to implement their demands, the officials have ignored their pleas. The pourakarmikas of the MCC as well as those taken on contract by private contractors were being ignored and were being treated shabbily, they alleged. Among the demands, they said that the permanent pourakarmikas should be provided with 15 days salary as special incentive before Sankranti. Further, the pension that has been stopped to many retired pourakarmikas should be restored immediately, and that the death fund should be enhanced from the present Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 60,000. Apart from the salaries, the pourakarmikas also demanded that KGID, GPF and insurance cover should be extended to them by the Government. Urging the Government to regularise the services of pourakarmikas who are working on contract, they said that the tender invited to award contract for cleaning the City should be cancelled.
