MYSORE, DEC. 27. Nine persons from Mysore who were on a pilgrimage to Velankanni in Nagapattinam are feared to be missing after the tsunami lashed Tamil Nadu coast on Sunday. According to the sources in the Bishop House here, the nine missing persons, including children, were a part of a family that was in Velankanni to celebrate Christmas and seek blessings at the shrine of Our Lady of Velankanni at Nagapattinam, near Thanjavur. The sources said that Jhonson, a railway employee working at Railway Workshop in Ashokapuram, had organised the trip and three other families who were related to him had joined him. Jhonson is a resident of third cross in Railway Employees Layout at Vijayanagar. The sources said that the contingent of four families comprising 22 members left Mysore on Friday evening by Thanjavur Express. The nine members who were feared to missing had been to the coast to watch the sunrise when they were reportedly washed away by giant tides. The other members who did not accompany the children were taking rest at a hotel. While the anxious relatives are waiting for the word from the survivors, details of the missing are still not clear. Meanwhile, the Vijayanagar Police Inspector, Mohan, as well the Deputy Commissioner, Kumar G. Naik, told The Hindu that they had not received any information from the family members or have anybody approached them for help.
