TUMKUR, DEC. 27. The Jana Jagriti Yatra by the Karnataka Pradesha Kurubara Sangha for what its described as creating awareness among the people against the demolition of the Kanaka Gopura in Udupi received good response in Tumkur district today. The yatra was led by Eshwaranandapuri Swamiji of Kanaka Gurupeetha Shakha Mutt and it entered the district at Huliyaru town, where the community leaders, N.B. Gavirangaiah, S. Ramaiah, Nagappa, and Siddalingappa welcomed it. The yatra reached the Town Hall Circle here via C.N. Halli. The yatra covered Turuvekere and Tiptur towns before setting out from here for Shimoga district.People greeted the yatra at every village on its route and members of Kalidasa Vidyavardhaka Sangha and Kanaka Yuvasene accompanied it all through. Besides the Kurubas, people from other communities, especially backward classes, minorities, and weaker sections, participated in the yatra. The leaders of the community, S.G. Siddaramaiah, writer, and G.M. Srinivasaiah, former professor, Bangalore University, who spoke at public functions, said they can see a relation between the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya and that of Kanaka Gopura in Udupi.
