Tuticorin, Dec. 27. The toll following yesterday's tsunami has risen to three in the district, after the district administration decided to add Antony (55) of Tiruchendur into the list of people died. District administration sources said that though Antony was said to have died after suffering a cardiac arrest and not washed off by waves, he was included in the list on `technical' counts. Antony suffered the attack while he was dragging his boat to a safer place.
Evacuated
The Collector, V. Chandrasekaran, told The Hindu that 3,029 families residing at 18 villages in the district were evacuated to safer places. "It is estimated that 11,625 persons have been moved to the relief camps set up across the district," he said, adding 23 relief camps are functioning in the district now. Measures were taken to distribute food through the public distribution system and medicines were being given free of cost. "The district administration would be sending a detailed report to the Government seeking financial aid to those fishermen, who have lost their catamarans, boats and fishing nets," he said.
Search intensified
The search has been intensified to trace the 42 fishermen, who were said to have gone in seven boats for fishing from Trespuram here, two days ago. "We have sought the help of the Coast Guard and alerted the police also."
