UDUPI, DEC. 27. A national seminar on the poet laureate Kuvempu will be held here on Tuesday and Wednesday to mark the conclusion of his birth centenary celebrations. The Sahitya Academy, southern regional office, Bangalore, and the Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Research Centre are organising the event. In a press release here, the director of the centre, Heranje Krishna Bhat, said writers and litterateurs will present papers on Kuvempu's works at the seminar which will be inaugurated by the poet G.S. Shivarudrappa. The first session of the seminar will focus on "Epic tradition and Kuvempu's Sri Ramayana Darshanam.'' The scholar Mohan Ramanan will present a paper on epic tradition in general and with particular reference to Sri Ramayana Darshanam. The scholar Y. Venkataramana Rao will present a paper on "Retelling Ramayana" with particular reference to Ramacharita Manas and Maithili Sharan Gupta's Saket. The scholar R. Vishwanathan will speak on "Retelling Ramayana" with particular reference to Ezhuthachan. The second session will focus on Kuvempu's poetry. The scholar G.S. Siddhalingaiah will present a paper on "Kannada poetry, tradition and Kuvempu.'' The scholar Basavaraja Sabarada will speak on "Love poems of Kuvempu,'' while Basavaraja Kalgudi will present a paper on "Element of protest in Kuvempu's poetry.'' Mr. Shivarudrappa will chair this session. The third session on Wednesday will focus on "Kuvempu: Novels and plays." The writer Rajendra Chenni will present a paper on "Kannada novel tradition and Kuvempu's novels.'' The scholar L.C. Sumitra will speak on "Colonial experience in Kuvempu's novels,'' while Prakash Garud will present a paper on "Kuvempu's plays and theatre.'' The writer C.N. Ramachandran will chair this session.
