200 acres of land for export promotion park

MANGALORE, DEC. 27. The State Government is planning to develop an export promotion and information technology (IT) park at Ganjimath near here and it has initiated steps to acquire 200 acres of land for the purpose, the Minister for Industries, Infrastructure Development and Civil Aviation, P.G.R. Sindhia, has said.

Speaking to presspersons here today at Bajpe airport after visiting Ganjimath, the Minister said the Government has released Rs. 9 crores through the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) for acquiring the land.

Small-scale industries

He said the Government has released Rs. 100 crores as subsidy to small-scale industries. It plans to release another Rs. 40 crores as subsidy in 2005, he added.

To a query, he said the Government is planning to organise investors' meeting at the regional level in the State in January. It will be held by clubbing four or five districts together in places such as Mysore and Hubli, he added.

He said IT companies such as Wipro have sought land in Mangalore to open their units. Infosys Technologies Ltd. has also sought land to expand its operations, he added.

Mr. Sindhia predicted that Mangalore will witness rapid industrial development with the Oil and Natural Gas Commission evincing interest to invest in the coastal area.

Earlier, Mr. Sindhia reviewed the work on the new runway and other expansion projects at the airport. The director of the Bajpe airport, M.R. Vasudev, and the Deputy Commissioner, Arvind Shrivastav, briefed the Minister on the developmental works.

Mr. Shrivastav said the Government has handed over 186 acres to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the runway project. The AAI has sought another 158 acres of land to expand the airport.

Of that, 30 acres is government land and the remaining private land.

A total number of 116 families live on the land proposed for acquisition, he said.

Their rehabilitation will require Rs. 12 crores.

He said a notification has been issued under an emergency clause to acquire 11 acres.

Nine families living on the land will be rehabilitated, he added.
