CHENNAI, DEC. 27 . A history-sheeter, Ravi, facing over 10 charges including attempt to murder, rioting and criminal intimidation, was shot dead by police at Ayappakkam, near Ambattur, on Sunday night, when he attacked them. According to police, following a tip off, Chandrasekaran and Ruban, sub-inspectors, with a police posse were lying in wait for him at Tiruverkadu-Ambattur-Avadi Road junction. Ravi. Around midnight, the accused came on a motorcycle from Tiruverkadu. When the police team tried to stop him, he sped away. After a chase, he was stopped near Ayappakkam and when the policemen tried to apprehend him, he allegedly attacked them with a sabre and injured one of the sub-inspectors and a head constable. As a measure of self-protection, Mr. Chandrasekaran, shot the accused with his 9 mm pistol. Ravi was taken to Sri Ramachandra Medical College Hospital, Porur, where he died.
