COIMBATORE, DEC. 27 . The private cellular service providers have come forward to help victims of the tsunami tragedy. The BPL mobile has announced `Idayathilirundhu', an initiative wherein all the employees across the country would donate a day's pay towards rescue and rehabilitation initiatives. It had also opened Idayathilirundhu Collection Centre (ICC) at its 200 galleries, channel partner showrooms and select retail outlets. The Chief Operating Officer of BPL Mobile, Southern Region, Mohammed Saleem, said that the company had already extended communication support and other assistance to the kith and kin of the victims. Mobile booths had been set up and team members moving around with mobiles at various hospitals in affected areas were providing communication aid to the affected families. The Chief Operating Officer of Tamil Nadu Circle, R. Suresh Kumar, said that BPL staff had been in touch with the civil and police administration in providing SIM cards.
Airtel call stations
In the wake of the tragedy, Airtel has set up crisis call stations in the affected areas. The stations would also help in rescue operations and relief workers. The call stations had been set up at Thiruvarur, Karaikkal, Kalpakkam, Cuddalore, Pondicherry and Kanyakumari. These call stations would enable people to make local calls of three minutes, free. Airtel wes also setting up more such stations in affected areas. Special arrangements had been made for ensuring congestion-free network. Prepaid recharge coupons had been made available without processing fee at all crisis call stations and select outlets, a release said.
