Travelling on fake name costs him dear

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, DEC. 27. Travelling on a fake name cost a Jet Airways passenger dear as he was detained by the Central Industrial Security Force and handed over to the Palam police after a search of his baggage led to the recovery of 18 live rounds.

Though the passenger, Manish Anand, possessed a valid arms licence and would have been allowed by the CISF to board his flight since the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security guidelines stipulate that passengers who inadvertently carry ammunition in their baggage be allowed to proceed on the journey after the same has been confiscated and deposited with the area police along with a report, in this case he was handed over to the police since he was travelling on a boarding pass issued in someone else's name.

It was at about 7 p.m. on December 26 that Mr Anand reached the airport to board a Jet Airways flight 9W 727 for Patna. However, during the X-ray scanning of his baggage, Sub Inspector P.K. Singh noticed some ammunition like objects in his hand baggage and subsequently a physical search was conducted which led to the recovery of 18 live rounds of 7.65 mm (.32 bore).

During questioning, the passenger identified himself as Manish Anand, a resident of Godda district of Jharkhand and produced the duplicate of his arms licence and his driving licence to prove his identity. But as his boarding card was in the name of R.D. singh, he was detained for travelling on a fake name and was handed over by the CISF to the Palam police station along with his travelling papers, arms licence, live rounds, boarding card and air ticket for taking of necessary legal action.
