Temperature

MADURAI, DEC.27. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 28.0 degree Celsius and a minimum of 22.8 degree Celsius.

Water level

The level in the Periyar dam today stood at 120.20 feet with a discharge of 900 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 44.82 feet with an inflow of 454 cusecs and a discharge of 2280 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit was 3664 mcft.

Grievance meet

The Mayor and the Corporation Commissioner will hold a grievance meeting at the south zone office of the Corporation at 11 a.m. tomorrow. The residents of wards from 31 to 43 and from 60 to 65 can air their grievances, says a release.

Awareness campaign

The Madurai branch of the Anti-Corruption Movement organised an anti-corruption awareness campaign at the National Services Scheme camp of the Devasagayam Annathayammal College for Women at Perungudi recently.

More than 100 students, besides villagers, participated. R.G. Ramasamy, president, K. Ramachandran, secretary, and S. Janaki, programme officer, NSS, spoke.

Bhavishyanidhi Adalat

The Bhavishyanidhi Adalat for January 2005 will be held at the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation, Sub Regional Office, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on January 10.

Petitions may be forwarded by name to N. Balachandran Nair, Regional PF Commissioner-II, Employees' Provident Fund Organisation, Sub Regional Office, No.1, Lady Doak College Road, Chokkikulam, Madurai-625002.

Yoga classes

Yoga classes for men will be conducted at Senior Citizens' Forum at Viswanathapuram between 6.30 a.m. and 7.30 a.m. on two days a week.

Seminar

The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Tamil Nadu Council for Enterprise Development organised a seminar on `Launching and augmenting export business,' recently.

Various government incentives, export and import policy of different countries, products preferred in overseas markets and quality of exports with growth rate were explained by Jagat Shah, an international business consultant.

He also explained the concepts of `Entrepreneurial browsing' and `Localisation of global business,' designing web sites in country specific languages.

Office-bearers

S. Sivakumar and his new team of office-bearers of the Indian Dental Association, Madurai branch, were installed by George Thomas, past president, at the annual general body meeting held recently. S. Prabhu, State president, offered felicitations. R. Anitha presided over the meeting.

The following persons were elected office-bearers of the Janata Dal Government Transport Workers Union, Madurai Division, for 2005 at the general council meeting held here recently: K. John Moses (honorary president), M. Rajendran (presidium chairman), S. Ravichandran (president), S. Muthumari (general secretary), R. Ravichandran (treasurer) and P. Navaneethan (vice-president).

The following persons were elected office-bearers of the Madurai Branch of the Institution of Valuers at the annual general body meeting held recently: V.C. Gandhi (chairman), G. Venkidusamy (vice-chairman), L. Balaji (secretary) and R. Chandrasekaran (treasurer).
