BANGALORE, DEC. 27. Following the recent outcry of residents in and around Lalbagh on its upkeep, the Minister for Horticulture, R. Srinivas, who visited the park recently, has outlined several programmes in association with the Lalbagh Walkers' Association. Mr. Srinivas, who held a meeting with officials on Monday, said the association has put up 21 demands and the department is working on them. To start with, the security at Lalbagh will be tightened and the stray dog menace checked. Besides the park's cleanliness, drinking water facility and improvement of roads will be taken up. The police will regulate traffic in and around Lalbagh.
Allocation
The Minister said Rs. 14 crores has been allocated for improvement work in Lalbagh. Of this, Rs. 3.24 crores has been used for renovation of the Glass House. Another Rs. 4.5 crores has been sought to make a cobbled pathway in Lalbagh and for putting up four toilets.
Entrance fee
In consultation with the association, the department may levy a nominal entry fee in the mornings. At present, there is no fee for walkers before 9 a.m. The department has collected Rs. 2.75 crores as entry fee in four years.
The amount will be used to improve Cubbon Park and Lalbagh.
