Light 'moksha deepams': Kanchi Acharya

By Our Staff Reporter

VELLORE, DEC. 27. The Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi has expressed deep anguish at the tsunami havoc and appealed to devotees to light the `moksha deepam' in temples to enable those who met with an untimely death to attain `moksha', the international vice-president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, S.Vedantham told newspersons after a 30-minute meeting with the Acharya in the central prison here on Monday.

The VHP leader said the Sankaracharya regretted that while he rushed to Gujarat and Maharashtra and helped the quake-affected people there some years ago, he was unable to render help when a natural calamity had struck the people of Tamil Nadu, in view of his incarceration.

He said the seer had no objection if the Government took over the Kanchi Mutt as long as the people benefited.
