HYDERABAD, DEC. 27. The 57th batch for the basic course of Indian Police Service probationers got off to a start at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy here on Monday. As many as 79 IPS officers, including six women and four Maldivian officers, reported for the course, while seven more IPS probationers and two officers from the Royal Bhutan Police are expected to join shortly. The National Police Academy Director, Kamal Kumar, describing the IPS as one of the best career options available in the country, exhorted the officers to utilise the world-class training facilities at the academy for continuous learning and development. Mr. Kumar also called upon the officers to be models of very high ethical behaviour and conduct if they deserve to lead other men. A two-minute silence was observed prior to the inauguration of the course as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives following Sunday's psunami.
