GUNTUR, DEC. 27. The Indian Navy vessel INS Kirch, was searching for seven fishermen from Kothapalem on Monday night. The fishermen, missing after the tsunami attack, are believed to be at Gollamada, the confluence point of the Krishna with Bay of Bengal. Most of the fishermen in other boats have returned. INS Kirch Commander, Tripathy, sighted two boats, which were heading towards Nizampatnam harbour. The total property loss was being assessed and would continue on Tuesday also, the District Collector, G. Jayalakshmi, said.
Loss estimate
The total loss was preliminarily estimated at Rs.64.45 lakhs. The major loss in the district was boats, nets, and fishing ponds. The Indian Navy would organise a relief camp at Nizampatnam harbour for those who had returned from the sea and those on the shore. The Special Officer appointed for relief works in the district, D. Ramakrishna, (Panchayatraj Commissioner) arrived in the city on Monday and left for Kothapalem and Nizampatnam to get first hand information on the devastation. He met the District Collector before leaving for Repalle mandal. The District Administration had kept four buses and an ambulance ready at Nizampatnam to evacuate people in case of emergency. The total number of deaths also was put at 2 by the district administration. Eight people from the district had died on Sunday in Krishna district.
