Letters to the Editor
Sir, Apart from the people of India once again rising to the occasion and contributing liberally, what is more important is to ensure that the relief announced by the various governments and organisations actually reaches the affected.
H.R. Bapu Satyanarayana,
* * * Sir, The magnitude of the devastation is unprecedented. One has to recover from the shock to get into the relief mode. This is true for governments too. The coverage of the tragedy by a few TV channels gives the impression that they are only keen on projecting that little is being done by the Government.
M.P. Badrinath,
* * * Sir, While the havoc wreaked by the killer tsunami is tragic, worse still are the polemics resorted to by those trying to get political advantage out of it.
A.R. Raghuram,
* * * Sir, The scale of the tragedy is grave enough but some TV channels continue showing images of heaps of bodies and people wailing. It will be better if relief and rescue operations are telecast.
A. Ismail A Muhisin,
* * * Sir, When thousands have perished and many have been rendered homeless, people should refrain from celebrating the New Year day. All festivities should be cancelled. Instead, we should contribute liberally towards relief.
H. Padmanabhan,
* * * Sir, In such sad times, ostentatious events in clubs and hotels will be out of place. May we appeal to the people to cancel such celebrations and divert the money to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund?
M.M. Khurana, J.M. Manchanda & Garima Poply,
