Letters to the Editor
Sir, On Sunday, I was at the beach in Chennai when the tragedy struck. I witnessed an extra-ordinary sight. All the apartments in the area were opened up. The families crowded on the sidewalks were given refuge on the driveways and corridors. Many residents distributed food to those near their buildings. There was no looting, no violence and no complaining just the display of humaneness.
S. Krishnan,
* * * Sir, One thing is clear from Sunday's tragedy. While man has the power to reach the moon and make Mars the next holiday destination, there is one thing that is more powerful: nature. So while we pray for the souls of the departed and the wellbeing of the survivors, let us also remember that the human race is not omnipotent.
Swati Roy,
