CHENNAI, DEC. 28. Everyone had a reason to smile at the Mayajaal ground on Tuesday. The Indian women defended a meagre 165 with much spirit to win the seventh ODI by 88 runs and record their second successive victory. And the Australian skipper Belinda Clark held aloft the trophy after clinching the series 4-3. Medium pacer Amita Sharma struck twice at the start of the innings and the Aussies never recovered. Off-spinner Nousheen al-Kadeer shared the new ball and the ploy worked on a surface offering turn and bounce. The Indian spin attack maintained the pressure, bowling stump to stump, and giving little away. Indian stand-in captain Mitali Raj won the toss, but the side finished at an unsatisfactory 165 for nine. Australian medium-pacer Sarah Fitzpatrick operated with accuracy to pick up four wickets. Amita was adjudged the player of the match, and Fitzpatrick and Anju Jain, the best bowler and the best batswoman of the contest respectively. All-rounder Lisa Keightley was named the player of the series. Mitali Raj was the best batswomen, and Neetu David, the best bowler.
