MUMBAI, DEC. 28. The Cricket Club of India trounced Lords and Commons by 49 runs in the latter's first match of the KPMG sponsored tour of India at the Brabourne Stadium on Tuesday. Former India star Sandeep Patil scored a smashing 74, Siddhar Jadeja 69 and Bollywood star Aftab Shivdasani contributed with an undefeated 57 for the host. The visiting team consists of Tory and Labour Members of Parliament, including Steve Bassam, Government Minister in the House of Lords, Hugh Robertson, a shadow Sports Minister, Duncan Watson, a police officer in the Palace of Westminster, Tremayne Rennell, former Scotland captain in rugby and team leader of Vladimir Kramnik when he won the World chess championship from Gary Kasparov in January 2001, Siddiq Musa, a special adviser to the Liberal Democrat Party and tax specialist with KPMG, Robert Evans, a former member of the European Parliament and Michael Cockerell, a political author. The team is led by the recently appointed Opposition whip, Crispin Blunt. Despite the loss the visiting team was looking forward to its match against Bombay Gymkhana on Wednesday and the return match against CCI on Thursday. At a press conference on Monday, Crispin Blunt said the team would be playing the Indian Parliamentarians in New Delhi on January 6. "The Indian people elect former Test cricketers to the Parliament. Let's see what we can do against Navjot Sidhu," said Mr. Blunt. Members of the visiting team presented cricket kits to four trainees of the `Cricket for Care' promoted by the CCI.
