TDP for CBI probe into party leader's death

By Our Staff Reporter

NANDIMANDALAM (CUDDAPAH DT.), DEC. 28. Political murders have risen and 41 TDP functionaries were killed in the State since the Congress regained power, TDP leaders alleged here on Tuesday.

The TDP official spokesmen, Kadiam Srihari and M.V. Mysoora Reddy, State general secretary, Sobha Nagi Reddy, MPs, C. Ramachandraiah and S. Ramamuni Reddy, and MLAs, S. Raghurami Reddy and G. Veerasiva Reddy, district president, R. Ramesh Kumar Reddy, and other leaders attended the funeral of the district organising secretary of the party, Chavali Veeranjaneyulu, at Nandimandalam in Pendlimarry mandal.

Police blamed

Accusing the Congressmen of liquidating TDP leaders and activists in a planned manner, the TDP leaders charged the police with being partial towards the Congress. The Government withdrew security to former Ministers and TDP leaders making them vulnerable to murderous attacks, they alleged. The TDP could not be weakened by killing its leaders, foisting cases on them and destroying their properties, they maintained.

Police officials could perceive threats to Congress leaders serving jail terms, but failed to warn TDP leaders who faced similar threats, they alleged. They found fault with the district police machinery for not providing security to Veeranjaneyulu who faced a threat to his life. They accused the police of warning the complainants not to name some Congress leaders, when they named suspects.

"We have no faith in the State police and hence demand a CBI enquiry into Veeranjaneyulu's murder," they contended. The two police constables, Sridhar Reddy and Venugopal Reddy, among the eight accused, should be dealt with sternly, for their involvement in the murder while being on leave, they demanded. The two cops were booked in cases when they indulged in poll violence in Pendlimarry mandal this year, they said.

Condolence meet

Hired killers were moving without fear in the YSR dispensation and those nabbed by the police were being let off, the TDP leaders alleged. Thousands of party activists took part in Veeranjaneyulu's funeral. The slain leader's widow, C, Venkatasubbamma, an MPTC member, his sister, Anju Yadav, an SI, were consoled by TDP leaders. TDP leaders addressed a condolence meeting here this evening.
