The DVDs were being smuggled into the country through the unaccompanied baggage facility available to genuine passengers. The seized DVDs are estimated to be worth over Rs.13 lakhs. They were of English feature films such as `The Incredibles', `The door in the floor', and the like. The baggage had been sent from Kuala Lumpur via Colombo on a SriLankan Airlines flight. The consignment had arrived in the name of a person from Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu who was found to be nonexistent. According to Intelligence sources, the consignment had been brought by a Chennai-based syndicate which recently shifted operations to Karipur owing to pressure from authorities in Chennai. The facility meant for passengers coming from abroad to send their personal belongings to the country without going through import formalities was being used by several syndicates to smuggle goods to the country through airports.
