Plea to set up devaswom board for Sabarimala temples

By Our Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA, DEC. 28. The Akhila Bharatha Ayyappa Seva Sena national president, C.K. Neelakantan Nair, has called upon the Government to take immediate steps to set up a separate devaswom board for the Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa Temple and associated shrines.

Mr. Neelakantan Nair was inaugurating a dharna demanding a separate administrative body for Sabarimala temples, in front of the Assistant Devaswom Commissioner's office in Aranmula on Monday.

The Sena leader has called for investing 10 per cent of the total revenue from Sabarimala for uplift of the economically backward Hindus in the State and to utilise the remaining amount for providing basic facilities to pilgrims visiting Sabarimala

Mr. Neelakantan Nair alleged that the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) had miserably failed to go by the custom in various temples. Instead of sandal paste, it had been supplying sawdust paste to distribute as `prasadam.' And instead of vermilion, low-quality colour powders were given to the temples, he alleged.

`Cancel agreement'

Mr. Neelakantan Nair called for immediate cancellation of the agreement signed between the TDB and the `aravana' contractors for violating the agreement more than once during the annual pilgrim season.

The Seva Sena State president, Bhaskara Pillai, the general secretary, Madhumala Radhakrishnan, and the vice-president, Mathoor Suresh, spoke.
