The Inspector-General of Police (North Zone), S.R.Jangid, has said additional forces had been mobilised from Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, and Villupuram, to provide security to the tsunami-hit villages in Cuddalore. This is besides requisitioning the Tamil Nadu Police Service personnel. About 25 to 50 personnel had been deployed to coordinate with the Revenue officials in the relief works in each of the villages. They would have three tasks on hand: recovering bodies, collecting data on missing persons and guard deserted houses. In all, 1,000 police personnel had been pressed into service. The Superintendent of Police, S. Panneer Selvam, said two policemen rescued a three-year-old child found trapped in a car that rolled over due to the tidal waves. The parents had left the child and gone for walking on the Silver Beach. They did not return. From the visiting cards in the car, their relatives were contacted and the child was handed over, he added.
