Vikram steals the thunder

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, DEC. 28. Lawrence School, Lovedale's S. Vikram was more than a match for the seasoned Jas Pal Mashi and S.G. Maribashetti in the grand finale of the National equestrian championship here on Tuesday.

Vikram and his mount Sgt. Pepper stole the thunder, from a field of 14 riders, including many with international experience, with a superb display in the BHS Six Bar open event with a faultless round to win the title amidst standing ovation.

Taking the six bars after Maribashetti and Mashi had dropped a barrier each, the Lawrence school teen put aside his fears and rode bravely to win.

The BHS show jumping puissance event was another thriller with Risaldar J.P. Mashi and S.G. Maribashetti ending up in first place by clearing `The Wall' at 1.70m. Maribshetti's big-hearted horse CJ-15 cleared with grace and Mashi's mount Mast Maullah also sailed over the barrier.

Both riders then unsuccessfully took a tilt at the National record standing in the name of Daffedar Sajjan Kumar, who cleared 1.95m on Fariyad at the Delhi Horse Show this year.
