VIJAYAWADA, DEC.28. Two more bodies were traced late on Monday. The body of Kokkiligadda Chenchu Ramaiah (45) was found at Edurumondi village of Nagayalanka mandal. The death of Kantheti Surya Kumari (52) was reported by her relatives, who took away her body on the day when the tidal wave struck Manginapudi beach and cremated it.
Navy help sought
The district administration requisitioned the services of helicopters on INS Kirch and INS Ranjip -- the two vessels belonging to the Indian Navy -- to conduct the search operations close to the coast, according to the Joint Collector of Krishna district, P. Sampath Kumar. The search was conducted at a few sand bars at Polatithippa near Machilipatnam. The district administration distributed 10 kg of rice each to 14,000-odd families belonging to the fishermen community in 46 villages on Tuesday morning and another 15 kg each would be distributed on Wednesday. Mr. Kumar said officials rushed to Giripuram village little past midnight and evacuated 403 families of nomadic fishermen, as water entered their makeshift dwellings. The District Collector, K. Prabhakara Reddy, said rescue and relief operations were attended to immediately after the tragedy struck. He also clarified that all those who were brought to the district headquarters hospital in Machilipatnam on Sunday were "brought dead" and the question of doctors failing to give proper treatment did not arise.
