Toll in Nellore 20

DEC. 28.
The district Collector, B. Rajsekhar, on Tuesday said the tidal wave toll in the district went up to 20 and the initial loss was Rs. 7.50 crores.
Addressing a press conference here, he said a maximum number of deaths were reported from Gangapatnam Pallepalem and it was four in Krishnapuram. Among the dead, 11 were male persons and the rest were female.
Following instructions from the Government, a uniform supply of 25 kg of rice per affected family was being arranged and as per estimates 330 tonnes of rice was required for distribution among 13,200 families. So far 82.50 tonnes of rice was distributed. He said that 28 enumeration teams were formed for scientific assessment of the damage.
About the fishermen community, he said they would be taken care under the Assured Employment Assistance scheme for the next two months. They would be supplied an extra rice of 50 kg and Rs. 100 in addition to the usual supply of 25 kg of rice.
