THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 28 . The All-India Congress Committee has directed party MPs, MLAs, and members of various local bodies to contribute one-month's salary towards relief work for tsunami victims. The contribution mobilised by the party workers would be paid into the Chief Minister's relief fund. The party has also decided to mobilise contributions in kind and distribute it through the Government machinery rather than directly contributing it to the victims. In a statement here today, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee directed them to hand over the amount to the respective District Congress Committees (DCC).
Relief committees
The statement said the Pradesh Congress Committees (PCC), DCCs, block and mandalam committees would function as relief committees. The AICC has also asked members of various feeder organisations to involve themselves in relief activities. The respective DCCs have been asked to maintain accounts of the contributions towards the relief fund and inform the PCC accordingly. Those collecting clothes should take care to mobilise new ones. All contributions in kind should be handed over to the Tahsildars of the affected areas and a receipt obtained. The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee has also directed all its office-bearers to oversee the relief activities in the districts under their charge.
