NAGERCOIL, DEC. 28. The Bharatiya Janata Party has urged both the Centre and the State Governments to implement a comprehensive coastal insurance scheme for the benefit of fishermen and family members. Speaking to presspersons on Tuesday at Lekshmipuram, near Colachel, the BJP president, L.K. Advani, said that fishermen in different parts of the country suffered due to natural calamities. Since they had to stay near the shores, the Government should prepare a long-term plan for their welfare. The BJP-ruled States had been asked to implement a comprehensive coastal insurance scheme for them. The Government should also ensure relief and rehabilitation of the affected fishermen. Mr. Advani said that since Kanyakumari was one of the worst-hit, he wanted to visit the area to see for himself the damage caused by the tsunami. He spoke to Lt. Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which is one of the worst affected areas in the country, for speedy relief. Later, Mr. Advani visited a relief camp at the Government Arts and Science College at Lekshmipuram, near the Monday Market in the district, and consoled the relatives of the victims
