CHENNAI, DEC. 28. In view of the fact that a large number of people have been stranded in Port Blair and the Car Nicobar islands, Indian Airlines will operate a total of seven relief flights to Port Blair out of Chennai and eight services from the Kolkata airport on Wednesday. According to an IA press release, a decision has been taken to allow all relief material to be carried free of cost in these flights and special cells have been set up to dissemination flight information. Chennai (22560022), New Delhi (25674270/25672226), Kolkata (22116869/22110041) and Mumbai (26156986). The Regional Directors of IA can also be contacted for carriage of relief material at the following telephone numbers: Southern Region, Chennai:22561070, Eastern Region, Kolkata:22116953, Western Region, Mumbai:26156788 and Northern Region, Delhi:25672800. Today, IA operated three flights from Chennai and five services from Kolkata evacuating more than 952 perons from the island. Jet Airways will also fly medical and relief supplies from Governmental and other recognised voluntary agencies free of charge.
