NEW DELHI, DEC. 28 . The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today decided to mobilise resources for rendering relief to the tsunami-affected people. The Polit Bureau of the party has asked the State units to work in this regard. The Polit Bureau member, Prakash Karat, will reach Nagapattinam tomorrow along with the secretary of the Tamil Nadu unit, N. Varadarajan, and other State leaders and discuss provision of relief in the town. The West Bengal unit has sent Rs. 5 lakhs to the Tamil Nadu unit and Rs. 2 lakhs for Andaman and Nicobar Islands. MPs from the State, Nikhilananda Sar and Ramchandra Dom, will go to Chennai with a five-member doctor team and visit some of the affected areas in Chennai, Kalpakkam and other places. In Kerala, the party and other mass organisations are engaged in rendering relief in Kollam and Allapuzha districts. The Thiruvananthapuram district committee has begun organising food, clothing and other material for Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. Two MPs, A Vijayaraghavan and Varkala Radhakrishnan, will reach Kanyakumari tomorrow with relief supplies. The Nagercoil MP, A.V. Bellarmine, will accompany them. The West Bengal Housing Minister, Gautam Deb, will reach Port Blair to help organise relief. The State has arranged to send clothing, medicines and other materials worth Rs. 57 lakhs to Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Polit Bureau has also appealed to all party units to collect money for the relief work. Demand Drafts/cheques should be drawn in favour of "Communist Party of India (Marxist)" and sent to the Central Committee, A.K. Gopalan Bhavan, 27-29 Bhai Vir Singh Marg, New Delhi.
