GAJWEL (MEDAK DISTRICT), DEC. 28. Life for 16-year-old Sampath, who resisted drinking the poison his father gave him and survived, has become a veritable hell each day. After losing all members of his family, Sampath is now on the verge of losing his home that he dearly holds to his heart, because it reminds him of his parents. Unable to repay the mounting debts, Komurvelli Nagaiah, a trader, made his wife, daughter and younger son drink pesticide mixed in cool drink, but he failed to force his eldest son Sampath who was studying tenth class at that time. While his sister and brother meekly surrendered, Sampath fought with his father and survived. For three days, Sampath saw his family members die one after the other in Gandhi Hospital. He conducted their last rights and endured the pain like a matured man. He completed Intermediate with the Government's assistance.
Problems continue
Even after three years, his problems are not over. The loan of Rs. one lakh his father took from the District Cooperative Bank to construct the house, has now accumulated to a staggering Rs. 5 lakhs. While he succeeded in getting the date of auction of the house postponed several times, the inevitable is bound to happen any time. Sampath gave a memorandum to the Chief Minister when he visited Mulugu of Gajwel constituency recently. "Each day, one family in the town helps me by providing two square meals. I am not sure that this will go on forever. If I lose my home where do I go," Sampath asks. He heaved a sigh of relief on Monday as the Minister for Tourism and legislator of Gajwel, J. Geetha Reddy, got the auction postponed for the time being. Sampath is waiting for another miracle to save him.
