Aswathy storms into semifinals

KOLLAM, DEC. 28. Asian champion Aswathy Prabha stormed into the semifinals in 57kg weight division in the fifth Senior National Women's boxing championship at the Lal Bahadur stadium here on Tuesday.

Defending champion Aswathy was too good for Surender Kaur of Chandigarh. From the start it appeared to be a mismatch as Aswathy's straight left jabs had her rival on the ropes. One of Aswathy's lethal punches landed flat on Surender's face forcing the referee to stop the contest in the first round.

World champion Merycom marched into the semifinal in the 46kg with an effortless win over arch-rival Swapna.
