INL seeks entry into LDF

By Our Special Correspondent

KOZHIKODE, DEC. 28. The Indian National League (INL) has sought admission into the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) with a view to getting representation in the State legislature.

The INL president, Ibrahim Sulaiman Sait, told mediapersons here on Monday that the offer had been communicated to the LDF leadership in writing. He hoped that the INL ``will get justice from the LDF'' since in his perception the INL had contributed its mite to the recent sensational LDF victory in the Manjeri Lok Sabha constituency over the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) candidate.

The senior Muslim leader said: ``the LDF and the INL have been friends so far... but the time has come for the front to show that it has a big heart. Let us come closer, be more intimate.''

He said it was high time the INL gained representation in the legislature.

He admitted that the growth of the INL, since its formation 12 years ago, had been slow but claimed it was due to scarcity of resources. ``But the situation is changing. The younger generation has abandoned the IUML and the INL has gained in strength. We have proved our secular credentials. We hope the LDF will respond positively to our offer,'' Mr. Sait said.

Lambasts Chandy

Mr. Sait followed up his appeal to the LDF leadership with a volley of criticism against the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, accusing him of being ``a more inefficient administrator than A.K. Antony'' and alleging that ``he is shielding IUML leader P.K. Kunhalikutty to make secure his position as the Chief Minister.''

He alleged that Mr. Chandy's sole aim in holding a cocktail party for journalists of national media organisations in Delhi recently was to build up his image to impress the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi.
