KAYAMKULAM, DEC. 28. The former Defence Minister and convener of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), George Fernandes, has asked the State Government to take steps to provide more clothes and clean drinking water to the victims of tsunami in Alappuzha. Speaking to mediapersons after visiting the tsunami-hit Andhakaranazhi near Cherthala and the relief camps at Pattanakkad in the district today, Mr. Fernandes said he found people at the camps short of clothes. There was also shortage of drinking water in some places, he said. The NDA convener said the relief operations of the State were generally satisfactory. He said the calamity faced by the country had few parallels. Mr. Fernandes said coordinated action of the public and the Government was needed to overcome the present crisis.
