DMK trust donates Rs. 1 crore for relief

. The Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, today called on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president, M. Karunanidhi, at a private hospital here.
Mr. Karunanidhi handed over to her a cheque for Rs. 1 crore from the DMK trust towards the Prime Minister's Relief Fund for the tsunami-hit areas.
He thanked her for visiting the affected areas and consoling the people and requested her to mobilise funds for the reconstruction efforts. He also wanted her to impress upon the Prime Minister the need to levy a one per cent cess on income tax to raise resources for relief and reconstruction.
