CHANDIGARH, DEC. 28. The general secretary of the Indian National Lok Dal and Member of Parliament, Ajay Singh Chautala, today accused the Congress of converting the electoral process into a money-minting machine. In a statement here, he alleged that senior Congress leaders in Haryana were collecting crores of rupees from all the aspirants for the 90 State Assembly seats for which elections are due in February. Political corruption had thus fathomed new depths, he added. Mr. Chautala claimed that being the ruling party, the INLD had been exercising utmost restraint while making statements. In contrast, a few Congress leaders had been issuing irresponsible statements which were baseless, malicious and misleading. "These leaders have no case to argue against the INLD. On the one hand they concede that historical achievements have been made in the field of water, power, roads, information technology, rural development, education, health and social welfare by the INLD government but on the other they go about contending that the people favour change. The real situation is contrary to this," he asserted. Mr Chautala asserted that his party would expose the Congress over the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal issue. The party would make the people aware of the "conspiracy" of the Congress Government in Punjab and the Congress-led Government at the Centre to negate the Supreme Court's judgment on the SYL Canal and all the agreements on the sharing of river waters. A party which had thus jeopardised the lifeline of Haryana would not be tolerated by the people, he said while asserting that the success of the INLD this time would be much more spectacular than before.
