JAIPUR, DEC. 28. The Rajasthan Government intends to promote private investment in the residential schemes in urban areas in tune with the spirit of the national housing policy and explore the potential for securing the assistance of private sector in improving the slum areas in the State. These issues were discussed at a high-level meeting on urban development presided over by the Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje, here on Monday. Various aspects of urban development, such as regularisation of colonies developed on agricultural land and profitable use of land at prime locations, were reviewed during the meeting. Ms. Raje said the State Government would allot 15 per cent of the developed residential plots to the individuals whose land is acquired by the Urban Development Department. Wherever that is not possible, cash payment will be made as compensation for the land acquired. While reviewing the work relating to regularisation of residential colonies developed on agricultural land, Ms. Raje said the pending cases would be disposed of as soon as possible. Extra vigil would be exercised to ensure that such colonies are not built on agricultural land without permission in future, she added. The Chief Minister underlined the need for promoting private investment for the development of townships in big cities and said the local bodies would issue lease deeds to investors if they deposit the money to be spent on development works. The meeting was informed that the survey of slum colonies in the urban areas had been almost completed. Ms. Raje, while suggesting that the cooperation of private investors be sought for planned development of slum areas, said an action plan for the purpose would be prepared after undertaking a study of similar works launched in Mumbai. The meeting discussed the modalities for transferring the title of lands at prime locations in the State Capital to the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) to facilitate their use for profitable works benefiting the common men. Ms. Raje, while affirming that simple rules would be framed for conversion of agricultural land for non-agricultural activities, said a policy would also be formulated for approving the construction of high-rise buildings in Jaipur in consultation with experts on architecture. The officials attending the meeting also dealt with the disposal of solid waste and garbage in Jaipur, while Ms. Raje said the toilets in the city would be constructed on the build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis. She also said the regular `Haat Bazaars' would be developed in six important cities in the State on the lines of `Dilli Haat' in the national capital.
