Doctors posted at relief camps

KOCHI, DEC. 28. The Health Department has posted 44 doctors in different relief camps in the district for providing medical assistance to the victims of the flood-affected, according to the Deputy District Medical Officer, V.K. Krishnankutti. Forty-eight junior health inspectors and 45 staff nurses were also posted to assist the doctors. A 10-member team from Kottayam Medical College, including doctors, were giving medical aid at various camps for the past two days. The Deputy DMO said that so far no cases of contagious diseases were reported from the camps. Enough medicines and other facilities were available in all camps, he said.

Asram joins relief works

The Mata Amritanandamayi Asram is conducting relief operations in the tsunami-affected areas. The asram is supplying about 1,000 kg of upma, 1,800 kg of rice and 1,500 litre of milk a day. Medicines worth Rs. 4 lakhs were distributed in the last 48 hours, serving about 2,000 patients. Six ambulances with 10 doctors were providing medical assistance to the flood-affected.

Power supply disruption

Electricity supply in the areas near OEN, Thycoodam, Champakkara, Petta, Pattayamcheri and Kolacheri will be disrupted between 9 a. m. and 5 p. m. on Wednesday.

Ayurveda treatment

The District Collector, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, today said that a team of ayurveda doctors led by the Ayurveda DMO, Valsalakumari, will be available for providing 24 hours service to the relief camps. Those who require ayurveda treatment should contact Ph: 2355592 or 94476 67285.

TCC staff gesture

The staff of the Travancore Cochin Chemicals (TCC) at Udyogamandal, Eloor, will donate one day's wages to the relief fund, according to the company managing director, N.R. Subramaniam.

Concert to collect aid

A concert for providing assistance to the calamity-affected people will be organised on Thursday evening at the Kashi Art Cafe, Fort Kochi.

Offices opened

Coordination offices have been opened at the Malippuram Community Health Centre (Ph: 2492656), Vypeen and Kumbalangi Primary Health Centre (Ph: 2240472) to coordinate the medical facilities of relief centres.

Postponed

The Century Club, Vennala, has decided to cancel its New Year celebrations in the wake of the natural calamity that has affected the region. The amount earmarked for the celebrations will be donated to the victims of the havoc.
