By Our Special correspondent

BANGALORE, DEC. 28. The Indian Institute of Hams, Bangalore, is sending a team to the tsunami-hit areas to coordinate relief work with the non-governmental organisation ActionAid India.

The team consisting of G. Venkatesh (call sign VU2COC); B.N. Umesh (VU3BNH); K. Suresh (VU3KHR); and B.N. Roshan Kumar (VU3BNE), two of them doctors, have already left for Chennai on way to the Andaman and Nicobar islands. They are carrying radio equipment to provide communications.

The National Institute of Amateur Radio, Hyderabad, has already set up a communication station at the Andamans and in affected areas in Andhra Pradesh with links to Hyderabad. Among those helping out is K.B. Krishnamurthy, Rajya Sabha member and active HAM operator with the call sign VU3VIP.
