Temperature

TIRUCHI, DEC. 28 . The city today registered a maximum temperature of 30.0 degree Celsius and a minimum of 23.5 degree Celsius.

Sonia's transit visit

The Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, arrived here at 10.10 a.m. today by a special flight en route to Nagapattinam.

She was accompanied by Union Ministers Pranab Mukerjee, Dayanidhi Maran, E.V.K.S. Elangovan, the AICC general secretary, Ambika Soni, and the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President, G. K. Vasan.

She left Tiruchi at 2.30 p.m., according to the police.

Doctors rush

The Corporation has rushed over 250 sanitary workers and a team of its doctors to the tsunami-hit Nagapattinam district to help the local authorities in the relief operations. Vehicles, relief materials, bleaching powder, clothes etc were sent today also. The doctors' team has taken with them adequate medicines, according to Corporation sources.

Exhibition inaugurated

The Collector, V. Pandian, on Monday inaugurated the exhibition of the products made by members of women self-help groups at the Amaravathi Cooperative Stores on Old Goodshed Road in the city.

The products of over 50 women SHGs have been displayed on about 40 stalls in the show, which would last till December 30.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur reservoir stood at 85.17 feet today.

The inflow was 855 cusecs and the discharge 5922 cusecs.
