NEW DELHI, DEC. 28. A senior manager of the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation from outside the SCOPE Complex at Lodhi Road today while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000 from a civil contractor for release of his security deposit. According to CBI officials, they recently received a complaint from a civic contractor alleging that Vinay Kumar, a senior manager of the ITDC, was demanding bribe for clearing the security amount he had paid when being given construction work at Nizamuddin Urs Mahal. He completed the work in August 2003 and subsequently the payment was also released by the ITDC. However, the security amount was not returned to him. On December 24, the accused asked the contractor to meet him in the parking lot of Hotel Janpath. As directed, he wrote an application to get the security amount and was handed over only one cheque for Rs. 1,20,275. The senior manager allegedly asked him to give Rs. 15,000 to get rest of the amount.
